To inspire and engage the Nordic music community by sharing the KOKO journey – its reinvention as a multi-dimensional cultural hub – and explore what a sustainable, creative, and economically viable live scene could look like. How can organizers find and develop new business models? How can we reshape venues and spaces? How can we create new types of audience experiences?
THE FUTURE INDEPENDENTS
– Panel discussion, hosted by SOM
Today’s music landscape sees a massive grassroots movement with more self-releasing artists and small indie labels than ever before. However, a significant gap remains to achieve financial sustainability solely through the music.
Can labels & artists survive from their releases alone or is there need for new models to fund a creative output?
This session will discuss today’s pre requisitions and dive into tomorrow’s possibilities to be a thriving independent business or artist.

FRIDAY SEMINARS:
”DET SVENSKA MUSIKUNDRET”- READY TO BURST?
Friday, 5th of September
The vibrant music scene we have known for the past 20 years is a direct legacy of past investments. But with national cultural funding cuts, dwindling grants for our studieförbund, and the ”rehearsal space-death”, the future looks bleak. Is ”Det Svenska Musikundret” a balloon about to pop? This session will explore if regions and municipalities can step in where national powers are retreating, and if the future rather lies in fostering ”Det Regionala Musikundret.” Join us to discuss what can and must be done to ensure a thriving musical landscape for tomorrow.
STUDIEFÖRBUNDEN & THE REHEARSAL-SPACE CRISIS
Friday, 5th of September
– Are we heading towards a quieter Sweden?
In the SVT documentary series ”Det Svenska Popundret” from 2019, we see The Cardigans and The Hives receive the government’s music export prize. Two global super bands with journeys that undeniably started in a rehearsal space. Looking ahead to 2025, we’re looking at a totally different music climate. We see rehearsal spaces closing down one after another, all whilst the Swedish artistic elite are protesteding loudly. This panel discussion will discuss the ongoing crisis, its consequences and if it can be countered or if a quieter Sweden is inevitable?
”MUSIC IS WHAT’S HEARD IN THE BACKGROUND”
– THE LACK OF MUSIC MEDIA
– Panel discussion
The lack of music media is a problem that is getting more and more significant: Television music channels are gone, music programs are discontinued, music magazines are dying, the era of blogs is over & record reviews have been removed from the newspapers. Are influencers today’s music journalists? Is music promotion about placing background music to the next viral TikTok dance? Today’s lack of music media affects everyone; from artists and labels to PR agencies and music journalists. What can we do together to change the situation? Is it possible to find new paths? A common platform?
ACCESSIBILITY ALL AREAS
DEI in policy documents and as business factor is hot today. All well so far, but how can we achieve actual inclusion in the sometimes very rigid structure of music business and can learning disabilities be creative asset to levitate how you work today? Join the panel to discuss how to work with DEI in practical ways and on a daily basis to rethink accessibility—not as a theory, but as a driving force for innovation and connection.
