Karimah (CA)

Live show: Karimah performs her signature blend of retro and modern soul music with backing tracks and costume changes. Her dynamic “stadium diva-meets-bedroom singer” vocals and catchy melodies will give you goosebumps, and her stories of rebellious womanhood, and trials and triumph will leave a tear in your eye as she turns pain into beauty. The music: With lyrics like "Should have kept my mouth shut, but I decided to f**k with you instead"... and "if those tombstones are just headboards for the sleeping, then why, oh why are those black robed weeping?", Karimah displays a rawness, vulnerability and cheekiness that can only be found in a tortured and artistic soul. Background: Karimah is a french/english speaking Pop/R&B singer/songwriter with grand prizes at Western Canadian competitions Polyfonik, Chant'Ouest, and the Memphis Bound blues Challenge. Karimah reached the top 24 on "The Voice Canada" season 5, a.k.a "La Voix" in 2017. After 13 years of live performance and songwriting in both English and French in her hometown of Edmonton, AB, Karimah has matured from a solo acoustic artist dabbling in blues, rock and EDM to a retro-futuristic maven of heart wrenching soul/R&B music likened to both Nina Simone and Beyoncé. Karimah was nicknamed “The Queen of Soul” by Radio-Canada (CBC) when she reached the top 24 of “The Voice Canada” in 2017. In 2018, Karimah shared her story and her voice with festival goers at Mondo festival New York City, and Live at Heart Newfoundland, receiving accolades from industry professionals and music fans alike. Upcoming releases: "Reveal to heal is my motto". Karimah has spun years of heart break and battles with inner demons into a bittersweet musical experience of love, hate, harm and healing that will leave you with goosebumps, and possibly in tears. In 2019, Karimah will produce and release "WHY", a 6 song concept visual EP with a french bonus track, revealing her inner struggles and emotional rollercoasters, and taking everyone for a ride. "Time is always running out, so I like to cut to the chase. Honesty and vulnerability are my policy". Photo credit: nineteen87photography (Jesse Yon Fong)
